"Grand Park is envisioned as a world-class oasis, blending nature, recreation, and community gathering spaces." — City of Frisco officials

After 20 Years of Waiting, Frisco's Grand Park Finally Breaks Ground.
The 1,000-acre "urban oasis" goes from legend to reality on April 27 — and it's the biggest park project in North Texas history.
Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney once called Grand Park "our favorite urban legend." That era is officially over. On April 27, shovels hit dirt on Phase 1 of Grand Park, a 1,011-acre destination that will stretch from the Dallas North Tollway west to Lake Lewisville. It's been in the works since a 2006 bond election — delayed for years by environmental cleanup of the former Exide battery recycling plant — and the city just approved a $43.39 million contract with Crossland Construction to make it real.
1,011 — Total acres
$43M — Phase 1 contract
7,500 — Event lawn capacity
Phase 1 — dubbed "Civic Park" — covers 69 acres and includes a kayak-ready pond with a peninsula, a splash pad, climbing structures, food truck zones, and a massive event lawn. Completion is targeted for late summer 2027. The full build-out envisions five distinct districts: community gathering spaces, adventure playgrounds with treehouses, a full sports complex, and a botanic garden with a labyrinth. Think Central Park meets Texas.
